What song lyrics define you?

Alison's Contribution:

There is a book call The World in Six Songs which I'm currently reading - you might enjoy it to.

It is by Daniel Levitin, who wrote Your Brain on Music (which I recommend even though it might not seem straightforward).

I believe there are universals in Music - which comprise rhythm and phrasing of melodies/sound. Lyrics (and orchestration) are the paints with which the composer creates their work of art which has it's purpose to move you. I'm currently exploring improvisational structures in case you're interested.

I find that good, original work with a lyric I can understand will move me. I'm also interested in learning more about Rahman's work - you may remember Jai Ho (which I understand means Hallelujah) from Slumdog Millionaire. I enjoyed this piece so much, I sought the lyrics in English. I encourage you to look for them as well so that you can "get" the music "better".

All the best,
What am I listening to currently.... well Louis Armstrong is the one that I like most, and then there is Paul Simon, Dan Fogelberg, Gavin deGraw, Cat Stevens, amongst many others.

If I had to pick just one, right now I'd pick Fogelberg, Longer than...

All the best for now... would love to find out the ones you like.
