I hate to say it, but the quick answer is to do a search on Answers for tips on using linkedin.....
My advice would be to use your network wisely. There is no point "burning" your contacts on a bi-weekly basis with emails that you are job hunting - use the status updates and a personalised approach After you research the companies you are targeting. By all means, use LinkedIn and Facebook to research them.
