Another observation:
Whether or not they pass the "beer" test, I think there is a difference between looking for a leader you can trust and looking for a friend.
I believe it boils down to how you want to inspire those you lead.
There are many different approaches.
Some leaders use the stick approach - as in bad things will happen if you don't.
Another is to make it clear that you expect their best.
No doubt you'll come up with your own.
