There are a lot of resources about how to use social networking sites - and other tools for "web based networking".
For Linkedin, look at the structure - it's designed to be intuitive (36m users, no training) - and used in many different ways.
You are interested in job search and internship programmes.
Here are a couple of ideas to get you started
1. Go to the Companies section. Type in Interns (two results have interns in the title, 44 use Intern in their profile) - Check them out and see if they can help.
2. Search for the firm you want to work for - I suggest using Web Design or Agency in the city where you want to work. Approach them to ask if they have an intern programme.
That's enough to get you off to a good start. When you're ready for the 3rd step, come back to me - I'll be more than happy to help. I don't want to induce information overload you and I believe you should have some measurable success with step 1 above.
All the best,
Alison
