Do you wish they had taught you business at university?

Alison's Contribution:

I wish someone had taught us the fine art of juggling one's earning potential throughout their career. Perhaps they could combine it with how to work with others and being conscious of the impression you make. London Business School had a great technique for doing this. I certainly was surprised. KPMG Consulting also had a wealth of tools they used both international and with clients.

Another course I would have appreciated was contract negotiations for job seekers (I heard in the news that in the financial sector there is a 79% divide between what the top men and women are being paid - I assume for comparable jobs)... I was told in university that no one can pay you what you're worth, you have to decide what you will accept.

The third course I'd like to see taught is how to pick a life partner - whether for business, as a friend or something more, I think there must be a way (rather than accident or geography) for doing this. "Instinct" development is what you might call it.

Learning the theory and getting practice earlier in a career might well provide a better base on which to build the leaders of tomorrow - whether in business or elsewhere.

All the best,

Alison
