MS Project has built it's market share on being a quick to set up and easy to use basic functionality.... and others are emulating and adding value filling in all the missing chunks - so it's worth having a look at the market.
I suggest you check out the Top Ten Review site. They have done two reports - one on online project management tools and the other on the "off line" model.
It gives a way to analyse the functionality you might like vs that which you require. It also gives a broad indication of costings - I recommend you undertake a robust value for money analysis before adding new tools to the mix.
Hope this is of some use to you.
All the best,
Alison

PS - There are a couple of Project Management and PMO groups here at LinkedIn whose members might also be able to provide valuable insights.
