Do trust networks and location-enabled social networks mix well together?

Alison's Contribution:

Whilst trust and location based social networks are not mutually exclusive, I think the deciding factor is the individual's perception of their identity/branding.

The activities a Neighbourhood Watch/Village Coalition type of network tend to be focused on improving the local community.

The activities of an institutional network, online network tend to have a focus on either business development or getting advice.

Does trust have any measurable correlation to proximity? I suggest not any more. Rather it is based on the history of interactions to date (for some, it is the totality of their interactions.) Sometimes it is based on "family" connections, and by the extensions of that family connection - eg a friend of a friend.

Hope this adds to the thinking you are doing about this area.

All the best,

Alison
