How can I get more people to read my blog and post comments

Alison's Contribution:

Freudian typo - I assume you mean "write" on various topics.

Interesting situation. I too would love to know what is going on.

First, I'd like to understand the nature of the contributions. Do they mention sites/products/ etc? What particular keywords to they use? Are they just a couple of contributors, a ring of up to 12 or many more.

How do you know your other posts never get read? Is it just because there are no comments?

Now to the question - How can I get more people to read my blog and post comments? I'll separate these two different activities.

Posting comments:
1. Ask them to answer a controversial question.
2. Ask them for their Pros and Cons on a debate
you get the drift....

Getting readership - I'm still trying to figure that one out. Here are my suggestions.
1. Get a twitter following and send a daily link.
2. Get linked on leading industry sites
3. Post controversial items
4. Research key words and try to use the ones with the fewest hits so you have a better chance of coming near the top of a search.
5. Set up an email collector and send a daily message giving the link to your site.

Hope this helps give you some ideas.

I'd be grateful if you would share with me what you learn.

All the best,

Alison
Clarification added 3 days ago:
Thank you for the feedback. It is much appreciated.

I'm the type of person who wants to contribute. I have found I make the biggest impact when I make clear, concise and actionable insights. I am delighted you found them valuable.

Before you begin approaching more people, have another look at your blog with a fresh eye. See if you get the same experience I am having.

I opened up the post whose title spoke to me - Internet researches across two screens. I believe that many readers will be put off by your site because

1. The word I is used a lot, and many times it is not capitalised.
2. Sentence breaks are not consistent. In places the next sentence starts immediately after the full stop (period) and is not capitalised.
3. Your sentences are too long and are hard to comprehend. I don't get the point.

How to turn Confusion into Comprehension?

Well if I knew that for everything, I'd be fulfilled!

Whilst content may be king, layout is critical.

Present a professional, easy to understand format.

The objective is to use 1 screen to get your point across - I should be able to read it in less than 30 seconds. To accomplish this, the best thing I can think of is to improve your layout.

How can you improve your layout? It starts with simple things - the heart of it is sentence structure.
1. Use Subject - Verb - Object - FULL STOP. Next Sentence - Subject - Verb - Object - FULL STOP. You can make your point in 15 words or less - pick the best 15 words. Eliminate the rest.
2. Put your punchline first. Most of your readers won't reach the bottom - time, etc. Putting your punchline first will ensure that you prove your value.

These two things combined will ensure that your readership will WANT to come back.

I hope you will take this feedback as a genuine attempt to help.

All the best,

Alison
